S/Sgt. Douglas A. Snow qualified as a waist gunner. On April 29, 1944, Doug was assigned as a replacement in the oldest operational bomb group of the 8th AF, the 423rd Bombardment Squadron, 306th Bombardment Group, the “Grim Reaper Squadron”.  The highly decorated squadron during Air Offensive over Germany was engaged in strategic bombardment operations. Doug Snow completed a 32 mission tour in a B-17 Flying Fortress crew. He covered the airborne invasion of Holland in September 1944 and helped stop the advance of German armies in the Battle of the Bulge by attacking airfields and marshalling yards.
